Blaine’s Bulletin: Fall Favorites In The Third District
Washington,
November 1, 2024
Fall is in full swing here in the heartland, and as we move into the season of giving thanks, there’s no better time to celebrate family togetherness and community. Missouri’s Third District offers a wonderful array of activities, local traditions, and scenic beauty for everyone to enjoy as we gather with loved ones in preparation for the upcoming holidays. Missouri has a rich history of fall traditions, rooted in the early settlers who celebrated the harvest season. Did you know our state is home to some of the oldest pumpkin patches in the region? Generations of families have enjoyed the ritual of picking pumpkins, and as one of the top producers of apples in the country, Missouri’s apple orchards are a long-standing tradition that brings people together each fall. When we gather at these pumpkin patches and orchards, we’re celebrating not just the season but also our agricultural heritage and the hardworking farmers who support our communities. Whether it’s a weekend trip to pick apples, visit a local pumpkin patch, or gather seasonal produce, Missouri’s countryside has no shortage of family-friendly destinations. Our farmers markets bring together community members to enjoy homemade jams, fresh produce, fall flowers, and crafted goods. Supporting these markets is a great way to stock up on fresh, local goods while connecting with neighbors. Fall festivals are another family favorite, with events like the Hermann Oktoberfest and the Curated, Crafted, and Created Market offering something for everyone. These gatherings are perfect for bringing generations together to celebrate local artisans, try seasonal foods, and listen to live music. From craft fairs to family festivals, these events capture the community spirit that makes the Third District home for so many. Spending time together outdoors is a time-honored way to celebrate the season, and Missouri’s state parks offer some of the best views around. With more than 93 parks across our region, there are countless trails and picnic spots to explore, each showcasing Missouri’s natural beauty in the fall. Graham Cave State Park and stretches of the Katy Trail are particularly scenic as the leaves turn, providing the perfect backdrop for a family hike or a quiet afternoon walk. And finally, no Missouri fall would be complete without sampling the seasonal treats our small businesses offer. Local coffee shops, bakeries, and farm stands add their own special touches to autumn with warm cider, pumpkin-spiced lattes, and freshly baked goods. Visiting these small businesses not only lets you savor the flavors of fall but also supports the community. From bakeries with homemade apple pie to coffee shops offering cozy seasonal drinks, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. As the leaves continue to fall and the air turns crisp, we hope you find time to enjoy all that autumn has to offer here in Missouri’s Third District. This season invites us to slow down, gather with loved ones, and reflect on the simple joys that fill our lives. As we transition into the season of thankfulness, may your fall be filled with warmth, laughter, and cherished memories with family and friends. Wishing you a happy, cozy fall and a heart full of gratitude in the weeks to come.
