Blaine’s Bulletin: No More Tax Dollars for Corrupt Climate Groups

Last week, I wrote about the Biden administration’s careless climate agenda. In the House of Representatives, we voted to block their attempt to force electric vehicles on consumers, which would have given the EPA control over your purchasing decisions. This week, I introduced another bill that would protect you from paying the price when climate organizations dupe the president.

Even the most radical environmentalists have no reason to celebrate his policies, because they lack any substance beyond useless virtue signaling.

The Biden administration recently pledged an additional $3 billion to the UN’s Green Climate Fund (GCF) while attending the COP28 climate summit. The president already pledged $1 billion in April, and President Obama pledged $3 billion during his time in office. Meanwhile, the world's number one CO2 emitter, China, has enjoyed a free pass to pollute recklessly, undermine U.S. businesses, and cheerfully watch us bleed money into mismanaged efforts.

Using your tax dollars, President Biden can toot his own horn and claim he’s saving the planet, but under the surface, it’s as misguided as any of his decisions. Since its inception, GCF has mismanaged funds and failed to initiate effective projects. In one instance, GCF neglected its due diligence responsibilities and greenlit a project in Nicaragua despite severe human rights concerns. This greenwashed organization is essentially an international scam. Either President Biden fell victim to their pitch, or he just wants to add something to his administration’s record.

My bill would prohibit the president from giving money to GCF as well as the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). IPCC and UNFCCC have shown similar mismanagement and ineffectiveness to GCF. Specifically, publicly released IPCC emails from a university in England showed that leading global scientists intentionally manipulated climate data and suppressed legitimate arguments in peer-reviewed journals. Because they only “trust the science” when it says what they want to hear.

Simply put, American taxpayers should not have to foot the bill— with money we don’t have— for organizations with no proven track record of success, who often engage in skeptical science, and over which we have very little control.

A common theme throughout this administration is a lack of accountability. It’s no surprise to see that trend continue in their dealings with foreign entities like the UN. Accordingly, Congress has had to step up and prevent him from further abusing taxpayers.

I’m happy to say Sen. Eric Schmitt introduced a companion to my bill in the U.S. Senate. As elected representatives, we owe the American people sound decision-making, especially when it comes to spending. There should be a reasonable return on investment, whether it’s supporting our farmers or protecting our allies. Dumping money into an ineffective environmentalist group, just to say we did, is not only unreasonable but wholly irresponsible.

When conversation and debate arise regarding climate change, the arguments should be rooted in fact. Virtue signaling and hollow commitments have no place in policymaking, and I hope those still supporting President Biden’s agenda can see how far it has veered from their values.
