Luetkemeyer Questions Former State Department Official on CCP/TikTok’s Antisemitic and Pro-Terrorism Influence

Last night, during a House Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party, Congressman Blaine Luetkemeyer (MO-3) discussed the influence TikTok and the Chinese government have had on fueling antisemitism and terrorism support across U.S. universities.

Rep. Luetkemeyer: “Is TikTok having an influence— along with all the Chinese money going into these universities— is it having an influence on our youth with regards to the antisemitism and pro-terrorism activities that we see?”

Dr. Miles Yu: “Absolutely. When I worked in the Trump administration, with the State Department as a China policy advisor, we discovered there were 1.3 billion Chinese dollars pouring into American universities— unreported as is required by law. That translates into a lot of influence. Harvard University, for example, they conducted a survey on behalf of the Chinese government to prove that 93% of Chinese people support the Chinese Communist Party. They used Harvard’s prestige to support Chinese propaganda…This is a disgrace. You can see the Harvard administration’s cowardice in the context of the Hamas atrocities.”

Background: TikTok is a subsidiary of ByteDance, a company that originated in China and experts believe owes allegiance to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). In 2020, the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) instructed TikTok to sell to a U.S. company or face a ban in the U.S. While TikTok has taken advantage of loopholes to delay being ousted, questions remain as to whether the Biden administration will ever stand up to the CCP and enforce the ban.
