Luetkemeyer, Select Committee on CCP Hold Hearing on Biden PRC Strategy

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Blaine Luetkemeyer (MO-03) and the Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) held a hearing on the Biden Administration’s People’s Republic of China strategy. During the Congressman’s questioning, he pushed the Department of Commerce to aggressively address our trade deficit with China. The Congressman’s full line of questioning can be found below.

Congressman Luetkemeyer: Do you agree that by us trading with them, we’re allowing our money to flow that way which helps their economy. Which helps them to build detention camps against their own people, subsidize industries against ours and build up their military. It’s a pretty simple question.

Ms. Thea Rozman Kendler (U.S. Department of Commerce): I believe that the world’s biggest economies should continue commercial trade that does not affect our national security interests…

Congressman Luetkemeyer: We had two of the dissidents and survivors of Tiananmen Square talk to us recently… we asked the question, “what should we do to be helpful to the Chinese people?” And his comment was, “quit helping the Chinese government.” That’s all he said. And there was a hush over the room. “Quit helping the Chinese government…” implying, “when you help the government, they hurt us. When you help the government, they hurt you.”
