Luetkemeyer Responds to Successful Continuing Resolution

The legislation funds the federal government through Nov. 17, providing a short-term fix and allowing additional time for Congress to work out a budget.

Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer (MO-3) today released the following statement in response to Congress’ passage of a bipartisan continuing resolution.

"A government shutdown could cost taxpayers $1 billion to $2 billion per day. That creates an increase to the deficit, a paid vacation for thousands of government workers at the taxpayers’ expense, and a stop to the congressional investigations of President Biden’s seemingly illegal business dealings. Any true conservative would never agree to such irresponsible waste,” Rep. Luetkemeyer said. “Though it’s only a temporary solution, I’m glad to see progress through this continuing resolution so that we may work out a more permanent budget based on conservative policies that combat the waste and overreach of the Biden administration.”

Background: The Continuing Appropriations Act provides for the following:

  • Extends government funding until November 17, 2023.
  • Provides $16 billion for disaster relief.
  • Extends various healthcare programs and disaster response authorities until November 17, 2023.
  • Delays Medicaid Disproportionate Share Hospital (DSH) cuts until November 17, 2023.
  • Extends child and family service welfare programs, Sexual Risk Avoidance Education (SRAE), and the Personal Responsibility Education (PREP) until November 17, 2023, with funding offsets.

  • Extends the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) authorization and borrowing authority until November 17, 2023, with retroactive reauthorization if needed.
  • Continues Compacts of Free Association authorities until November 17, 2023.
