Following is a statement from U.S. Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer (MO-3) on the release of President Obama’s proposed budget that was required by law to be delivered in February:
“The president’s budget, which is more than two months late, calls for higher taxes, more spending, and bigger government – all of which would make it more difficult for hardworking Americans to find jobs. More troubling yet is that the president’s budget simply does not balance. Every family must balance its budget, and Washington should too. We can’t spend money we don’t have, and it’s not fair for the president to take more to spend more. I proudly supported the House Republican budget passed weeks ago that provides for a balanced budget that will foster a healthier economy and help create jobs. Our budget preserves programs like Social Security and Medicare for current seniors and future generations, but the president’s budget holds any reforms to save these programs hostage in exchange for even more tax hikes. The American people are tired of this same old song and dance from the president and his allies when it comes to spending their hard-earned tax dollars, so it would be safe to say that the president’s budget proposal as submitted is dead on arrival in the House.”
