  • Blaine's Bulletin: Solutions to Ensure Every American Can Get Ahead, Not Just Get By

For far too long, it’s been the same old song and dance in Washington. The House of Representatives has remained committed in passing targeted pieces of legislation that will grow the economy while Harry Reid’s Senate remains steadfast in its efforts to not bring anything to the floor for debate, let alone a vote. And with over 40 House-passed, straight-forward, job creating bills sitting in the Senate hopper, it is incredible that politics cannot be put aside for the betterment of our nation. Read more

Complicated, complex, and confusing are just a few words that come to mind when I think about the nation’s tax code. And during a time when words like bipartisanship and common-sense are not often heard in Washington, I am proud to have recently led an effort in the House that is both bipartisan and makes common-sense for the people of Missouri. In the nearly six years since the Obama Administration took office, thousands of new regulations have been issued by various federal agencies. This week, I’m going to highlight just one regulation from just one federal agency: the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) “Waters of the United States” rule. Please keep in mind, however, that this is just one example of one rule from one agency. If you think about the impact that this one regulation will have, and the fact that thousands have been issued in the last six years, it illustrates why many people say that our economy and our country are getting buried under an avalanche of red tape. After visiting with countless families and individuals across Missouri’s 3rd Congressional District, I have found that hard-working individuals, those living on a fixed income, and small businesses understand their pocketbooks are lighter and their economic future is not as bright. This is an issue that starts and ends with the policies and rhetoric of this administration, enabled by the Federal Reserve. Read more

When I drive around the 3rd District, there is nothing that moves me more than seeing our nation’s flag waving from a business, a home, or a school. The American flag represents so much, but freedom always comes to mind first. With that in mind, we must always remember the freedoms we are so fortunate to have come from the brave men and women who selflessly serve our country. Read more

Dealing with the current administration can feel sometimes, even as a member of Congress, like banging your head against a bureaucratic wall standing in the way of good government. So, you can imagine that I was very pleased when I recently learned that a recent effort by me to keep the government from inappropriately interfering in the private sector has moved a step in the right direction. The men who put their lives on the line when they signed the Declaration of Independence were keenly aware of the perils and dangers to liberty posed by the notion of the divine right of kings. For thousands of years, it was believed in many of the kingdoms of Europe that a king was divine and above the law and very few ever questioned that notion. Read more

I’m sure you recognize the many difficulties of being a parent and understand how expensive it is to care for our young ones. Unfortunately for parents, things have only gotten worse thanks to the misguided economic policies of this administration. Read more

There are no greater stewards of the land and animals than farmers. There is also no doubt that our farmers and ranchers are responsible for serving America as the breadbasket of the world. As a former small farmer who raised hogs and cattle to help pay my way through college and still enjoys working on my 160-acre farm, it is amazing that government today is intent on attacking what is considered a noble calling.
