Luetkemeyer Introduces Legislation to Protect Firearm Transfers Among Family Members

Following the president’s executive orders on gun control earlier this year, U.S. Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer (MO-03) introduced legislation that would protect firearm transfers among family members.

“In many families, across Missouri and the country, firearms are handed down from one generation to the next as treasured heirlooms,” Luetkemeyer said. “It is contrary to our Constitution and who we are as a people for the federal government to interfere with someone’s ability to transfer a firearm, or to leave a firearm in his or her will or trust, to an immediate family member who is legally allowed to possess a firearm. This commonsense legislation would simply protect the ability for Americans to transfer firearms to their family members and I am eager to work with my colleagues to move this bill forward.”

In January, President Obama announced new executive orders on gun control that would drastically expand federal involvement in firearm transfers.

Luetkemeyer’s legislation is called the Family Firearm Protection Act
