Rep. Luetkemeyer Discusses Biden Admin’s Strategy of Intimidating Small Businesses

President Biden has enacted 677 new rules costing $430.5 billion and burying small business owners in onerous paperwork.

Today, Congressman Blaine Luetkemeyer (MO-3) discussed President Biden’s disastrous policies with small business owners and experts at the Small Business Committee’s “Burdensome Regulations: Examining the Effects of DOL Rulemaking on America’s Job Creators.”

Rep. Luetkemeyer: “This particular administration continues to weaponize ‘guidance.’ It just drives me up the wall from the standpoint you have laws, rules to implement the laws, and guidance to clarify the rules. Guidance is not enforceable. It is not enforceable, period. And yet this administration continues to allow its bureaucracies to go out here and intimidate the business community by issuing guidance then going out and trying to enforce it and threaten them with lawsuits if they don’t comply with their guidance. Have you guys seen that kind of activity in your world?”

Ric Suzio, VP of The Suzio York Hill Companies: “Yes, we have, and we don’t mind when government comes in in a cooperative way to educate us and be a resource, but when they automatically come in and are punitive and look for fault within an organization that tries to do everything right, it’s very frustrating.”

Background: Since President Biden took office, 677 final rules have been passed costing $430.5 billion and more than 215 million hours of onerous paperwork for businesses. Over the next decade, compliance with Biden’s regulations will cost Americans more than $1.5 trillion. These irresponsible and misguided policies put small businesses at a disadvantage to larger corporations with more space in their operating budgets. The Trump administration’s regulatory reform would have saved American consumers and businesses more than $220 billion annually.
