Blaine's Bulletin: The Act of Giving

With what seems was just a blink of the eye, November is again upon us and families are setting their tables with all of the Thanksgiving fixings.

With what seems was just a blink of the eye, November is again upon us and families are setting their tables with all of the Thanksgiving fixings.

Thanksgiving is the time we reflect on the blessings in our lives. I remain grateful for my loving family, a country full of opportunities, the communities throughout our area who continue to put their neighbors before themselves, and the past and present members of our military who keep us safe and free.

I am always humbled when hearing stories about Missourians lending a helping hand to someone less fortunate. This year is no different. Missourians have a history of generosity but especially so after Hurricanes Harvey and Maria impacted hundreds of thousands of lives earlier this year. There were countless food, clothing, and toy drives supported by the people of Missouri’s 3rd District, and members of our communities traveled to affected areas, oftentimes putting themselves in harm’s way for people they have never met.

This fall people are volunteering at local shelters and donating canned goods to share with a neighbor in need. No matter how small or large an act of kindness is, they all go a long way and can have a profound impact. They are also what shapes our society and makes this the greatest country in the world.

This Thanksgiving I hope you enjoy time with your loved ones, share blessings and good stories, and eat a little too much turkey. From my family to yours, have a safe and very Happy Thanksgiving!
